Biographical Sketch

Dr. James R. Gammon, of Greencastle, has been affiliated with DePauw University since 1961. In addition to his teaching duties as a Professor of Zoology at the University, he has performed numerous studies for state and federal governments, as well as private organizations, on the aquatic biology and aquatic ecology of Indiana's rivers and streams. He has also developed a biological index that is used by many public and private organizations to evaluate the health of aquatic systems. The index measures diversity in terms of numbers of species and organisms distributed among the species. Dr. Gammon is the author of more than 60 publications involving the state of various aquatic ecosystems. His positions at DePauw include: Assistant Professor of Zoology 1961-65; Associate Professor of Zoology 1965-72; Professor of Zoology 1972-91; Department of Biological Science Chair 1988-92; Emeritus 1992- .
