Biographical Sketch

Reverend Estel I. Odle received his bachelor’s degree from DePauw University in 1935. He later became the Director of the Division of Christian Education for the Metropolitan Detroit (Mich.) Council of Churches. He graduated from the Boston University School of Theology and began his career as a minister, serving churches in the Northwest Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church, then for ten years was Executive Secretary of the Board of Education for the Conference, serving on numerous boards for the church, on the staff for national group life laboratory experiences, providing leadership for annual and jurisdictional conferences and for several national conferences in Christian Education.

He was active on several committees for both the State and National Council of Churches and was listed in Who’s Who in Methodism. A Rector Scholar at DePauw, Reverend Odle was immediate past president of his Detroit-DePauw alumni club. He married Grace E. Moore (DePauw 1935), daughter of Joseph G. Moore (DePauw 1911). They had two daughters.

He died in 1964 at the age of 51
