Historical Sketch
The church began in 1925 meeting in homes of various members. It was first organized by Rev. A. C. Wilmore, appointed on September 11, 1926. It was first known as Avondale United Brethren, then Batavia Avenue United Brethren. At that time the church was part of the White River Conference. As a result of a merger by First General Conference in 1946 it then became Batavia Avenue Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1953 it became known as Wilmore Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1968 the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren Church merged and the name became Wilmore UMC. The church closed March 30, 2008.
