Both his parents, as well as himself, were graduates of DePauw University, the mother having been Lois VonBehren. Lt. Sheperd graduated from DePauw with the class of 1943 and entered the Marines the following July. His father was president of the National City Bank of New York and a member of the DePauw Board of Trustees.
