Collection Statement
An exhibit prepared by the Archives of DePauw University and Indiana United Methodism in 2000. The exhibit is titled, “DePauw’s African American Heritage: the Pioneers.” All material is mounted on blue foam core board and is suitable to be displayed in an exhibit case or on exhibit panels. The exhibit covers AAAS and many individuals who have been influential in DePauw’s African American heritage including Stanley Warren, Tucker Wilson 1888, James Turner 1893, Percy Julian 1920, George Gore 1923, Mattie Julian Brown 1926, Valerie Murphy 1926, Thomas Barnett 1949, Russell Freeland 1951, Vernon Jordan 1957, Melba Zachery 1959, Judith Henry 1959, Bing Davis 1959 and Alan Hill 1981.
