Biographical Sketch

Dean Robert Yarian was born October 12, 1933 to Mary and John Yarian in Warsaw, Indiana. After graduating from Warsaw high school in 1951, Dean went on to complete his undergraduate studies from DePauw University in 1955, with top academic honors. He was also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He continued his academic pursuites at the University of Washington, ultimately receiving his Doctor of Philosophy with the highest honors. Dean enjoyed a successful thirty-six year career at 3M Corporation and earned nine patents, both as research chemist and member of management. Throughout his lifetime, he received many awards for his professional and personal achievements. He earned his pilot license and he recorded technical materials for the blind. He was once a radio announcer and a lifeguard. As an avid card player, Dean was deeply proud to be honored with the 'Life Master' certificate from the American Contract Bridge League. Dean traveled extensively around the world. He married Darlyene Ann Althaus (Axell) in 1970. Together they raised eight children. He passed away in 2024.
