Historical Sketch
The Adams United Methodist Church, Decatur Co., was organized January 14, 1859, with seven members, by Rev. Jesse Brockway. Rev. Joseph Tarkington, in the spring of 1861, raised money to construct the church, which was built by Andrew Stevens and dedicated by the Presiding Elder, Rev. Samuel Tincher, on January 14, 1863. It was then included in the Milford Circuit. The Sunday School was organized Easter Sunday 1862, and the Ladies' Aid Society, September 24, 1890. Under the pastorate of Rev. Stanley Hendricks the church was remodeled and rededicated on April 18, 1920, by the District Superintendent, Rev. W. M. Whitsit. The church was placed on the Sandusky Charge in 1923. Remodeling took place again in 1950 with the addition of a new basement and was dedicated on May 15, 1955 by the District Superintendent Dr. Harry O. Kisner. By the end of 1987, the membership and attendance were so low that the Adams United Methodist Church was closed.
