Historical

Designed to complement the major of your choice, specific Honor Scholar classes enhance a traditional course of study at DePauw. These courses are taught by distinguished faculty members who encourage students to approach their chosen field of study from a variety of perspectives. The discussion-based curriculum and intimate class size allow a small group of carefully selected individuals to learn in a collaborative, engaging setting.

Honor Scholars choose one interdisciplinary seminar during each of their first two semesters. These courses introduce common themes from a variety of perspectives and promote development of critial analysis together with communication skills. Students also participate in three Area Seminars during the sophomore and junior years. Each course focuses on how knowledge is acquired in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences and enriches students' abilities to synthesize and integrate a borad range of ideas.

The program concludes with an Honor Thesis, a capstone experience in independent, faculty-guided research. This intensive project allows students to share their academic interests and abilities with their peers, while providing a strong context for graduate school or professional success.
