Lois Jones scrapbook

 Collection — Box: DC1892
Identifier: MSD-1916-037

Collection Statement

Titled, "Memory Book," Lois Jones kept the scrapbook for her entire four years of college at DePauw. It is really more of a photograph album, since the only other media besides photos are some Christmas letters in the back from the 1940s. Her photographs are mostly of her friends, roommates and places she visited on or around campus. There are some good interior scenes of her rooms in residence halls and of some campus events, notably, May Day celebrations, Old Gold Day including the "snake dance," a visit to McLean Springs near Limedale, a YWCA hike, girls in a cemetery at night and groundbreaking and construction of Bowman gym. Downtown, she photographed the Greencastle "Clean-Up Day" parade. She photographed President Grose holding a football on the front steps of the First National Bank in downtown Greencastle, and faculty members Francis J. Tilden, Lisgar R. Eckhardt, Joseph P. Naylor and Cecil C. North. Many friends and fellow students were photographed and identified including YWCA presidents, Marie Adams, Hazel Day (Longden) and Genevieve Briggs. She made a few self-portraits, too.

There are also a few pages of photographs made after graduation including Louisville, Ky., Battleground Methodist campground, an Epworth League Institute meeting, Franklin College, a baptism in Hindostan Falls, West Baden and French Lick, circa 1921, Trinity Springs and a group of boy scouts. Three Christmas letters from 1947-1949 are included at the end of the Memory Book.
