Collection Statement

The Ella Trimble Ellis scrapbook is contained in string bound, black cardboard photograph album that has been separated into two parts for convenient storage and use. Part One includes: Photographs of DePauw University and a few photographs of individuals; Freshman Guide and other literature, 1923; personal records, including class schedule and registration fees; YWCA materials; Delta Delta Delta rush materials; invitations and party favors; Old Gold Day programs, 1923 and 1924; university programs; Eta Rho Psi materials; railroad tickets; athletic schedules; letter from her DePauw “Big Sister;” Women’s Self-Government Constitution and By-laws, 1922; Women’s Athletic Association Constitution and By-laws, 1923; Photograph of Kappa Delta women from Indiana University: Beulah Jones, Lucille Gibson, and Jo Renier; personal notes and letters; campus related news clippings; Valentine cards; May Day program, 1926, which includes winners, times, and distances; other memorabilia.

Part Two includes: Group and individual photographs; campus related news clippings; university programs; pressed leaves and other plant materials; Kappa Delta Study Topics Programs, 1926-1927 and other sorority materials; Alpha Etta newsletters; invitation to commencement, 1927; certificate of initiation into Kappa Delta, February 6, 1926; grade cards, 1925-1926.

The collection as a whole is in good condition. The last several pages of Part Two are all photographs, mostly of individuals.

Biographical Sketch

Class of 1927, Ella Trimble Ellis was from Garrett, Indiana. She married Robert B. Ellis following graduation and returned to Garrett where she and her husband resided for at least the next 35 years and where she was an English teacher. As a student Ella Trimble was a member of Kappa Delta and was involved with YWCA, the Women's Self-Government Association, Women's Athletic Association and May Day. She died June 5, 1994 in Warsaw, Ind.
