Biographical Sketch
Jesse William Weik was born in Greencastle, Indiana on August 23, 1857. He received his A.B. degree in 1875 and his A.M. degree in 1883, both from DePauw. He was a student of history and wrote a history of Putnam County. Weik also co-authored with Wiliam H. Herndon "Life of Abraham Lincoln" and was the author of "History of the Republican Party" (1908). He was a contributor to the "Century", "Atlantic Monthly", "Harpers' Weekly", "American" and other magazines and wrote special historical articles. Weik helped organize the Greencastle Telephone Co., served as special examiner for the U.S. Pension Bureau, and as a field inspector for the U.S. Post Office Department. Jesse Weik and Frances A. Hays of Portland, Indiana were married December 1, 1890. Frances died in 1911, and Jesse died August 17, 1930.
