Collection Statement

The scrapbook contains numerous photographs and memorabilia from Leroy McLeod's time at DePauw including dance cards, programs, tickets, invitations, receipts, letters, grades, photographic negatives, two pieces of senior cords (courderoy pants) and two pressed flowers, one in pieces in an envelope supplied by the Archives and one in its original envelope. Subjects of the items in scrapbook include: Greencastle Academy, basketball team, gym class, a Japanese student, classroom, library, dormitory and fraternity house interiors, East College tower balcony, Forest Hill cemetery, a lightning strike, campus views, student government campaigns (Liberal, Progressive and Independent parties), football, Old Gold Day, May Day, music recitals, track and field, Delta Upsilon, Gamma Beta Alpha (an "anti-dating fraternity"), Montgomery County, Brown Township School grades (1907), the McDowell Club of Allied Arts (Los Angeles, 1926), letters from Professor Edwin Post removing and reinstating Mr. McLeod from the staff of The DePauw newspaper, YMCA, class scraps, Phi Kappa Psi Theater, Log of Tusitala volume II (1911-1912), commencement, Bowman Gymnasium groundbreaking, a poem by Ford Frick, leather party favors or placemats from Thanksgiving, 1911 Delta Upsilon and 1913 Delta Gamma, a letter from the Michigan City Evening News in 1914 concerning an application for a summer job as a reporter, and a letter presumably from his wife, Peggy in Los Angeles to Leroy McLeod in San Francisco in 1926. Some items were cut out of the scrapbook before it was received by the Archives. Loose items from the scrapbook are placed in a file folder in the box with the scrapbook. Black, 11x16x3.5 inches.

Biographical Sketch

Born October 20, 1893 in Anderson, Ind. Married Irene Ruth Miller McLeod, June 25, 1915. The couple had two children (by 1920), Vaughn R. and Jean McLeod. Engaged in farming in Browns Valley, Ind. in 1915; his address was in Colorado Springs, Colo. in 1920.
