Biographical Sketch

Science Research Fellows develop technical and communication skills through exposure to the liberal arts, while majoring in any of the sciences. Students choose a major from among Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, or Psychology and enhance their coursework with faculty-guided research opportunities and internships.

Science Research Fellows participate in a two-semester research seminar to prepare themselves for future roles in research. Students working in small groups complete and present a research project each semester.

Students also learn as paid research assistants during one summer, usually the summer after their first year in the program. Students collaborate with distinguished faculty to research problems and develop findings for presentation in an open University forum. Outstanding projects have been presented at state, regional and national professional meetings and published in professional journals.

Science Research Fellows take advantage of semester-long internship opportunities at major research universities, government laboratories or private research corporations. The program concludes with a senior capstone seminar, which allows seniors to share their internship experience and explore relevant issues in a discussion-based environment.
