Collection Statement
Index cards to obituaries of Indiana ministers in the Methodist Episcopal, German Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Protestant, Methodist, United Brethren, Evangelical Association, Evangelical United Brethren, and United Methodist churches. The cards refer the reader to the appropriate conference journal by year and page number. Index cards to Indiana United Methodist records alphabetically and by county. Index cards to the Western Christian Advocate Marriage Index.

Historical Sketch
Indiana ministers in the Methodist Episcopal, German Methodist Episcopal, Methodist Protestant, Methodist, United Brethren, Evangelical Association, Evangelical United Brethren, and United Methodist churches were ordained and admitted as a full voting member at their respective annual conferences. If they died as a full member in good standing, they received an obituary in the conference minutes, as did their spouses at the time of their deaths. This included active, retired, supernumerary, and superannuated ministers. If they withdrew from the conference for any reason, or were expelled from the conference, they did not receive an obituary in the conference minutes. On rare occasions a local minister in good standing with the conference would receive an obituary in the conference minutes, but this was not standard procedure.
