Biographical Sketch
John A. Brouse was born March 29, 1808 in Highland County, Ohio. He was a pioneer Methodist Minister in Indiana serving in various locations throughout the state from the 1833 to 1869 when he retired. On November 1, 1863 he enlisted as chaplain of the 100th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. His son, Charles Brouse, was captain of Company K of the same regiment. Charles would later be given the Congressional Medal of Honor for his valor at Missionary Ridge. John served through the rest of the Civil War mustering out on June 8, 1865. After the Civil War Chaplain Brouse participated in the dedication of the military section of Crown Hill Cemetery. He died January 13, 1893 in Rockford, Illinois.
