Biographical Note
Thomas H. "Tom" Musser, professor emeritus of economics and management at DePauw University was born July 13, 1948 in Minnesota, Musser earned a bachelor's degree in history and geography (teaching) from Minnesota State University before being drafted into the United States Army veteran. After serving in the military, Musser earned bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting from the University of Arizona.
Musser worked in the late 1970s in Iran as financial manager for a subsidiary of General Electric and as an auditor for Bell Helicopter, and was an auditor for an affiliate of Newmont Mining in San Manuel, Arizona, from 1973-76.
He began his teaching career in 1980 at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, where he was an assistant professor for four years. He subsequently served as an assistant professor at Concordia University in Montreal (1984-87); a professor at Hartwick College in New York (1987-2000); and as an associate professor at Iowa's Luther College (2000-01); before joining the DePauw faculty in 2001.
At DePauw, Professor Musser taught financial accounting, managerial accounting, managerial finance, and entrepreneurship and small business management. He also led an off-campus Winter Term course, "Treasure of Sea and Land." Musser retired at the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year.
Tom Muser died Saturday, September 1 at his home in Greencastle. He was 70 years old.
