Biographical / Historical
Nicholas H. Noyes was a 1906 graduate of Cornell University who worked for Eli Lilly and Company beginning in 1910. Noyes served on the board of directors for the company from 1913 until his death and received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Butler University because of his distiniction within Eli Lilly and Company. In 1972, Noyes gifted 3,891 shares of the Eli Lilly and Company common stock to DePauw University, and which he said was to be used as an endowment to be invested, and the income to be used, for anything the board of trustees at the university saw fit for it be used for.
