Biographical / Historical
Jeanne D. Pachaly was a member of Delta Zeta sorority at DePauw University. After DePauw, Jeanne went on to received advanced degrees in music from the Amerian Conservateory of Music in Chicago, subsequently teaching vocal music there. Later she became an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, teaching there for many years. Jeanne also traveled, lived and sang extensively in Europe. She enjoyed not only music throughout her life, but membership in the Illinois State Poetry Society and the Poets and Patrons Society, having written and self-published poetry books. She also wrote interesting, funny and clever short stories about her travels. Jeanne suffered from mental illness issues but faced her demons with unparalleled strength and courage. She had frequent hospitalizations in her early life and later commented how grateful she was for modern medicine, which freed her from the most debilitating effects. Jeanne passed away in 2007 at the age of 85. (Written by Pamela Falcioni, great-niece of Jeanne D. Pachaly '39)
