Biographical Sketch

Jesse Brumbaugh was professor emeritus of Oregon State College and a former professor of public speaking, rhetoric and psychology at DePauw from 1902-1906. He was professor of English and philosophy at Dakota Weslyan University from 1897-1901 and was elected vice-president of the school in 1898. After teaching at DePauw, he graduated from the University of South Dakota law school and was a professor of law there until 1913. A member of Phi Delta Theta and Phi Beta Kappa, he was the author of numerous publications in all fields of his diversified teaching career. He passed away August 9, 1958 following an extended illness.

The following materials are found in the DePauw Archives:

The Garfield Bromley Oxnam file for the years 1931-1932 has a letter from Jessie F. Brumbaugh (October 1931) while he was a missionary in Japan.

The Max Ehrmann collection contains the Class of 1894 reunion picture of 1899.

The Martha Ridpath folder contains an address to the Class of 1894.

The Liliane Stevens Howard data mentions a Class of 1894 picture in the map cabinet.
