This collection contains many letters, all of which are in alphabetical order. Also included are two of Mr. Crowder's books, a notebook kept in Dr. Edwin Post's Latin class at DePauw, and an address by Richard Crowder to Shades Conference, Sept. 12, 1957.

Biographical Sketch

Richard Henry Crowder, the son of Richard and Mary Jane Crowder, was born on October 7, 1909 in Remington, Indiana. He married Ester Mae Haber on August 20, 1951. A graduate of DePauw University (A.B. 1931, M.A. 1933), he did postgraduate work at Yale University 1936-37 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1944. He taught Latin and English at Lowell High School 1934-35, taught English at Valparaiso University 1935-36, and went to Purdue University in 1937 where he rose to the rank of professor of English in 1957.
