Historical Sketch
The occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Asbury College, now DePauw University, was marked by many events. The celebration began December 9, 1936, which was designated as "Greencastle Day", and continued through the DePauw commencement in mid-June, 1938.
Many noted visitors came to the city and to the campus during the celebrations. The climax was reached at commencement time in June, when 4,000 to 5,000 visitors were expected on the campus. The New York delegation made reservations for Eastern alumni to come on a special train, and they lived on the train during their stay in order to have accommodations.
