Biographical Sketch

Born in Ft. Madison, Ia. in 1889, Dr. Edward R. Bartlett graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College and from the Boston University School of Theology. He received a doctor of philosophy degree from Iowa Wesleyan. A lecturer and contributor to educational and religious journals, he was chairman of the American Association of Academic Deans in 1946-47. During those same years he was also president of the Indiana Council of Churches and of the Wabash Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America. Before joining the DePauw faculty in1923 he had held several pastorates in the East and Mideast. From 1923 to 1947 he was head of the department of religious education and was named dean of the university in 1941.
