Biographical Sketch
Class of 1965. Sarah Robert Houghland '65 lives in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she is the director of development services at Colonial Williamsburg. Sarah married classmate David E. Kranbuel '65, who joined the faculty at the College of William & Mary in the fall of 1970. When the couple arrived in Williamsburg, Sarah taught school for one year before staying home to have a family. She was very involved in volunteer activities and also created a small guidebook for people visiting Williamsburg with children. In 1982 she went back to teaching and taught from 1982 to 1986 at Lafayette High School. In 1986 she wrote columns for the Virginia Gazette. In March 1987 she joined the development staff at Colonial Williamsburg where she worked until December 2015. David and Sarah were married from 1966 to 1983 and have two children, Kathy and Don. Sarah married Wright "Chips" Houghland, an architect, in 1985, and has two stepchildren. Sarah is the daughter of Sally Robards Roberts '30, older sister to Katherine "Kitty" Roberts Keenan '72, and former sister-in-law to Jim Keenan '72.
