Biographical Note
Veneta Johanna Kunter was born in 1899 in Evansville, Indiana to parents Augusta Maria Hatig and Henry John Kunter. Kunter attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she earned her undergraduate degree. Later, she studied at Columbia University in New York. Kunter was also a part of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Women’s Committee. In later years, she worked at DePauw University as a registrar and spent the rest of her life in Greencastle until her death in 1952. Kunter was never married, nor did she have any children.
Kunter began her undergraduate degree at DePauw University in 1923 and graduated in 1927. During her time at DePauw, Kunter was a part of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Fortnightly Club, the American Association of University Women, and she was an active Alpha Gamma Delta sorority member. After graduating from DePauw, she went to study at Columbia University in New York.
After graduation, Kunter became an officer and an active member of the Indiana Association of Collegiate Registrars and an Admission Officer. Kunter worked at DePauw University as a registrar for nearly twenty-five years, from 1927-1952. Kunter was also an active member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Women’s Committee. She represented the Greencastle branch of this organization and was cochairman. In this role, she raised money for the orchestra and publicized their events.
Kunter was never married and did not have children during her lifetime. She belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church in Greencastle. She lived in Greencastle, Indiana, for most of her adult life. She passed away on December 28, 1952, in Putnam County Hospital. Kunter was fifty-three years old when she passed from an illness she had been suffering from for many months. Veneta Johanna Kunter was buried at Alexander Park Memorial Park Cemetery in her hometown of Evansville, Indiana.
