Biographical Sketch
Harry Kemper Langdon was born on June 29, 1874 in Greencastle, Indiana to Jackson Kemper Langdon and Margaret S. (Beck) Langdon. Langdon graduated from DePauw in 1896. He then graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1899, did graduate work at Walter Reed Army Hospital at Washington, D.C., and served his internship in City Hospital in Indiana. Dr. Langdon served as a physician during 500-mile Races at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the start in 1911 to 1936. Dr. Langdon, a native of Greencastle, had been a specialist in blood diseases and for many years had been on the staff of the old City Hospital, now Marion County General Hospital. Dr. Langdon had been a member of the Marion County Medical Society, Indiana Association of Pathologists, American Medical Association, and Phi Chi medical fraternity. He was also a member of Paul Coble American Legion Post and Tabernacle Presbyterian Church. Along with being a physician, Dr. Langdon was a lecturer on bacteriology at the Indiana Medical College; he was a professor of bacteriology and director of laboratories of histology and pathology in Indiana Dental College; he was also a serologist for the Indianapolis City Hospital. Dr. Langdon was a Hospital steward for the 159th Indiana Infantry during the Spanish-American War and was a Captain in the Army Medical Corps during World War I. Dr. Langdon married Katherine Keene Langdon of Zanesville, Ohio on April 20, 1907. Harry Kemper Langdon passed away on December 15, 1962 at the age of 88 in Marion, Grant County, Indiana. He was survived by his foster daughter Miss Ruth Anderson of Indianapolis.
