Biographical Sketch

George Richmond Grose was born in Nicholas County, West Virginia, on July 1869. Immediately after receiving his A.B. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, he married Lucy Dickerson, a fellow-student, on June 28, 1894. He studied at Boston University School of Theology, receiving the S.T.B. degree in 1896. Ohio Wesleyan made him a D.D. in 1908 and LL.D. in 1916. Elected to the presidency of DePauw University in 1912, he served with distinction for twelve years, raising standards, securing millions for new buildings and the famous Rector Scholarships, and becoming a major molder of the modern DePauw. His influence on students and young ministers was remarkable.
