Historical Sketch
Early work of the church goes back as far as 1836, but the Lee United Methodist Church was not organized as a Methodist congregation until 1901. A building was constructed in 1902-03 and still stands. The church had a slow beginning. The morals of the community were such that it was nearly impossible to hold a church service. During services young fellows of the community played havoc with worshippers' horses and buggies. When the new building was completed, members of the Osborne Methodist Episcopal Church decided to move their membership to the Lee Church. Today the church is part of the United Methodist Covenant Parish. Lee United Methodist Church has the distinction of being the only church in White County in the Calumet District.
