Biographical Sketch

Cornelius Huffer Martin was born on December 10, 1847, in Perrysville, Indiana with a twin sister named Belle. Before attending DePauw, Martin was teaching school in Steuben township. Martin was also part of the debate society in this township and debated against the discussed question "Whether a Congressman should vote as his constituents instruct." Martin also served in the Civil War. Martin graduated from DePauw in 1875 with a Bachelor's of Arts. During his time at DePauw, Martin was part of the Beta Theta Pi Greek Fraternity. He was married on December 15, 1880, to a Miss Marietta Harn in West Lebanon, Indiana and later moved to Chicago and then Oak Park, Illinois. Martin's twin sister married a Peter W. Anderson. Martin worked for the U.S. postal service. Martin became the father of Edward P., Caroline E., Nellie, Cornelius H., Martha B., and Helen M. Cornelius Huffer Martin's death date is unknown.
