Biographical Sketch

James Franklin Findlay, Jr., the son of James F. and Blanche (Prichard) Findlay, was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 3, 1930. James received an A.B. from Drury College, 1952; an M.A. from Washington University in St. Louis, 1954; a Ph.D. from Northwestern University, 1961. He began his teaching career as an instructor of history at DePauw University in 1958 and rose to the rank of associate professor of history before leaving DePauw in 1971 to become chairman of the history department at the University of Rhode Island. His writings include: Dwight L. Moody: American Evangelist, 1837-1839, University of Chicago Press, 1969; (editor and contributor) Contemporary Civilization, Scott Foresman, 1970. As of 1988 James Findlay was living in Rhode Island.
