Biographical Sketch
Raleigh Shafer Mathias was born to Jesse Aulfert Mathias and Sallie Irene Mathias Vandersall on February 28, 1896 in Illinois. While a student at DePauw, Raleigh was affiliated with the Commons Club (Alpha Tau Omega) and also enlisted in the U.S. Army Coast Artillery Corps. He married Mildred Estelle Mathias on December 24, 1919. They had two children, Henrietta Marie Christie Tarbox and Doris Jean Helsel. Raleigh died on December 5, 1977 in Millersburg, Holmes County, Ohio and is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery, Summit County, Ohio.
