Historical Sketch
Early circuit riders visited the Union County area, but until 1831 there was no official organization of the Methodists. At that time trustees were elected and purchased a lot on Seminary Street where the first Methodist Church was erected in Liberty, Indiana. In 1855 the second building, a two story brick, was built on the southwest corner of Market and Seminary Streets. During the pastorate of C. C. Edwards, 1885-1889, the membership more than doubled, making it imperative that a new church building be erected. In 1930 the name of the church changed to Edwards Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church.
