Biographical Note
John William Thomas McMullen, son of William and Ann Cave McMullen, was born in Orange County, VA on January 1, 1826. In 1837, the family moved to Indiana and settled on a farm in Wayne County. McMullen had a strong Methodist background and later became a Methodist preacher, serving several pastorates. McMullen was successful in spite of limited educational opportunities as a child. DePauw University honored him with a doctorate of divinity in 1874. He died on October 18, 1906, in Lafayette, Indiana. (See also MC 38, In Memoriam)
