Biographical Sketch
A member of the DePauw English faculty for over 40 years, he joined the staff as an instructor in the fall of 1924 and became a full professor in 1936. He held the English department's James Whitcomb Riley Chair in literature and served as dean of chapels for 10 years. His first retirement came in 1967, but he continued teaching part time until 1972, when he retired permanently. A member of Phi Beta Theta fraternity, and the Society of Professional Journalists, he received his B.A. and master's degrees from Allegheny College, did graduate work at Harvard University and was awarded honorary doctorate degrees from Allegheny and DePauw. Jerome C. Hixson, professor emeritus of English at DePauw, died June 18, 1989.
