Biographical Note

Rev. Quincy Allen Myers was born August 14, 1867 in Newport, Indiana. He graduated from Garrett Biblical Institute in May of 1893. On November 1, 1893 he married Cora Lacey and shortly thereafter the couple began missionary work through the Methodist church, traveling to China.

In Chungking, China Quincy Myers studied the Chinese language with his teacher Chen Chen Lao Yeh. He learned the language quickly and was able to read Scriptures and conduct chapel services to the Chinese.

In 1896 the annual conference of the Methodist Church was held in far West China. Quincy Myers made the trip, gaining much knowledge of the Chinese. At the conference, he was appointed superintendent of the Chungking district and treasurer of the mission. He also began a school for native men who wanted to do evangelistic work - training them in the methods and discipline of the Methodist Church, and the meanings of Scripture.

On October 11, 1897, Cora and Quincy Myers had a daughter, Helen. Seven years later, in 1904, their son Kenneth was born.

Myers retired in 1908, and he and his family returned home to Perrysville, Indiana. Quincy took a position as the cashier at R.H. Nixon & Co. Bank and later become President of the Perrysville bank. He was elected member of the new Vermillion County Welfare Board and remained in this work for several years, but resigned on account of failing health. This was the last recognized position he held life before his death August 25, 1951.
