Historical Sketch
The Northwest Indiana Annual Conference was formed in 1852 from the North Indiana Conference, and covered about one-fourth of Indiana. Bishop Osman C. Baker presided over the first session. In the early years, the Conference contributed largely to the general development of Indiana through educational facilities and social action in both rural and urban areas. International missionary activities were also very important. On November 9, 1968, the Northwest Indiana Conference was incorporated into the North Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
