Biographical Note
Henry Nathaniel Oakes, Jr. was born July 29, 1935. He received an A.B. in journalism from Indiana University, 1957; a B.D. from Drew Theological Seminary, 1961; S.T.M. from Christian Theological Seminary, 1968; and a Ph.D. in American church history from the University of Iowa, 1974. He began serving the Indiana and South Indiana Conference in 1962 and currently (1987) serves as pastor at Hamline Chapel UMC in Lawrenceburg, IN. He is married to Phyllis (Brown) and they have two children, Elizabeth Anne and Holly Sue.
