Biographical Sketch

Born April 25, 1913 in Lykens, Pa., he was the son of William and Susan (Rudisill) Kerstetter. Under Dr. Kerstetter's leadership, DePauw raised more than $60 million to greatly expand its endowment, and saw three major new buildings erected - the $7.5 million Julian Science and Mathematics Center, the $8.5 million Performing Arts Center and the $1.6 million Hogate Residence Hall. He retired from DePauw in 1978 with the title emeritus president and professor of philosophy. He was presented an honorary Doctor of Letters degrees in a May 21, 1978 retirement ceremony attended by an estimated 4,000 persons.
