Scope and Contents
This collection contains pictures, correspondence and addresses that Bishop Raines has given. The collection is divided into three series. The first series contains items with no specific time frame reference. The second series pertains to the testimonial dinner given to Raines in 1956. Finally, the third series consists of correspondence supporting the reassignment of Bishop Raines to Indiana.
Another part of the collection contains pictures of Bishop Richard C. Raines, his family, and Bishop Raines with colleagues. It begins with photos of Bishop Raines, followed by Raines with family or colleagues, family members, and unidentified photos.

Biographical Note
Richard Campbell Raines was born in 1898 in Independence, Iowa. He attended Cornell College in Iowa and Boston University School of Theology. After serving a parish in Minneapolis for eighteen years, he was elected to the Episcopacy of the Methodist Church in 1948, assigned to the Indiana Area, and entered the North Indiana Conference. Bishop Raines traveled extensively as the President of the Board of Missions and was also the President of the Council of Bishops. He and his wife, Lucille, had four children, and Raines served in Indiana until his retirement in 1968. He died in 1982.
