Collection Statement

The collection named "Charles Robertson Family Papers" was acquired in three parts. They have now been gathered to form one collection in three series. Series one contains genealogical information on the Robertson family and detailed information of Charles Maxwell Robertson 1872-1961. Series II is a set of pictures of Charles M. Robertson Sr., his mother, father and extended family. Series III is four oversized flat photos in which Rev. Edward A. Robertson is pictured.

Biographical Sketch

Charles M. Robertson was born in 1872 in Waldron, Indiana. He was the son of David A. Robertson and Orintha (Maxwell) Robertson. He is descended from Nathan Robertson. On November 20, 1900 he married Edna Dice and they had one child, Charles M. Robertson, Jr.

After graduating from Moore's Hill College in the early 1890s, Robertson began a business career that spanned nearly 60 years and included the following positions: Baldwin Piano Company, treasurer (1912+); Werner Industries, president (1922+); Proctor and Collier Company, president (1926+); Kroger and Company, president (1942-1945); Commercial National Bank and Trust Company, New York, director (1943+); Kroger and Company, chairman of the board (1946-1950). He retired from Kroger in 1951, but continued to advise friends and businesses in the greater Cincinnati area on practical and financial matters.

Charles M. Robertson died on January 23, 1961 in Pompano Beach, Florida. Edna (Dice) Robertson died in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 13, 1941.
