Historical Note
The Roy O. West Library was dedicated in 1956 and originally designed to house 400,000 volumes, featuring small reading areas, carrels, and faculty studies. The building was named for Roy Owen West, a distinguished member of the DePauw University class of 1890 who was a prominent Chicago attorney and served as Secretary of the Interior under President Calvin Coolidge. Elected to DePauw's Board of Trustees in 1914, Mr. West served as President of the Board from 1924-1950.
The Roy O. West Library was renovated during 1986-1988 and formally opened to the public in October 1988. In June 2020, a renovation began with an expected open date of Spring 2023.
