Biographical Sketch
He was born on a farm near Trinway, Ohio, in 1871, the son of a Methodist clergyman. He was graduated from Ohio Weslyan University in 1894 and then became a student at Boston University School of Theology. Bishop McConnell served as a Bishop in New York and Pittsburgh and for years did religious work in India. He was a former president of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America. Becoming president of DePauw University in 1909, he inaugurated and carried t successful conclusion a campaign to increase its endowment fund and broaden its education plan by increasing the curriculum. He died August 18, 1953 at his home near Lucasville, Ohio, on his eighty-second birthday.
