Biographical Sketch

Dr. McFarland received his M.A. from Leland Stanford in 1893 and his PhD. From the University of Warzburg, Germany, in 1896. While in Europe he also studied in Freiburg, Zurich and in Naples. Frank was emeritus professor of histology and microscopic anatomy at Stanford University and a faculty member for almost 60 years. He was an honorary life member of National Geographic Society, corresponding member of Malacological Society of London and was a member of Commonwealth Club, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi. Dr. McFarland died in San Francisco February 21, 1950 while attending a meeting of the California Academy of Sciences, of which he was a past president.
