Historical Sketch

The Miss DePauw pageant was first organized when, in 1959, the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at DePauw University wanted to arrange for some type of beauty contest which would adequately represent the talented and beautiful coeds on campus. They also wanted the winning of such a contest to carry some significance, so they obtained a franchise from the Miss Indiana Pageant in Michigan City, Indiana to put on a Miss DePauw pageant. The Miss Indiana pageant operates under a franchise of the Miss America Pageant.
