Collection Statement

This collection contains diaries, inauguration of Dr. Murlin and long folded photographs of Murlin as president of Boston University. Four post card albums are also included along with letters and clippings, as well as a scrapbook from Murlin's time as president.

Biographical Sketch

Dr. Murlin was graduated from DePauw University with the class of 1891, winning Phi Beta Kappa honors during his senior year. While a student at DePauw, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Lemuel was one of the best known Methodist educators in America and spent his entire life in that work. He served as president of Baker University at Baldwin, Kansas, from 1894 to 1911, when he was chosen president of Boston University. Dr. Murlin was president of DePauw University from June 9, 1925 to 1928, being succeeded at the time by Dr. Oxnam. Following his retirement from DePauw, he spent some time in the east and south and then went to his home in Wayland for the remainder of his life.
