Historical Sketch

In 1898 under the leadership of Rev. George Wolfe a Sunday School and Ladies Aid were organized. The Sunday School met in a little church building, after two moves a church building was erected on Gibson Street in 1902. The church was known as Gibson Street Methodist Church. The Official Board was stunned when shortly after WW I, it was announced by Rev. Horace A. Sprague that the church building had been condemned as unsafe for public usage and there would be no more services in that building. Temporary quarters were used until a new building could be built. After many difficulties of time, money and weather the new structure was dedicated on December 20, 1925. It was during this period that the name was changed to Memorial Methodist Church. On February 15, 1970, Memorial United Methodist Church united with Calvary United Methodist Church and became Faith United Methodist Church. In 1972 Hight Chapel United Methodist Church united with Faith United Methodist Church.
