Biographical Sketch
Thirteenth President of DePauw University, 1928-1936. Retired Methodist Bishop Garfield Bromley Oxnam, president of DePauw University from 1928 to 1936 and one of the world's outstanding church leaders, died March 12 in White Plains, N.Y., after and extended illness. He was 71 years of age. A graduate of the University of Southern California (Phi Beta Kappa) and Boston University School of Theology, Bishop Oxnam was ordinated to the Methodist ministry in 1916 and founded the Church of All Nations in Los Angeles. An indefatigable worker, he gave many hours of volunteer service during World War II to government agencies, the military services and other patriotic causes.
