Biographical Note
In 1912, Frakes joined the Methodist church at a tent meeting and began to preach to railroad workers and cowboys. In 1921 he was ordained a Methodist minister and assigned a church with a congregation of about 200 at Pineville, KY. He felt he was needed in the hills and began to educate the mountain people. He started a school in a log barn with 13 students. In time there was a well-arranged and equipped school built, where 438 children were enrolled. After many years, Rev. Hiram retired and returned to Indiana.
