Scope and Contents
The collection consists mostly of sermons given by Richard Hargrave. Also included is a letter by William P. Hargrave, 1887, a paper written about him by Beulah B. Gray titled, "A Rider in the Wilderness," 1940, and some photographs.

Biographical Note
Richard Hargrave was born December 5, 1803 in North Carolina and came to Indiana with his parents at the age of 14. He was converted at age 19, and he joined the so-called "O'Kelly Christian Church." At 20 years of age, he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church and one year later began to preach. His first license from the ME church was dated 1823. He married Nancy A. Posy on March 10, 1829. His assignments were many from 1823-1870. In 1871, he retired, but he still labored, preaching about 200 sermons a year. He died on June 23, 1879.
