Historical Sketch
Philosophy and Religion have been a part of DePauw's (and Indiana Asbury University's) curriculum since the beginning. The course of study listed for seniors in 1839 included Natural and Experimental Philosophy, Rhetoric, Mental Philosophy, Paley's Theology, Moral Science and Evidences of Christianity, half of the required classes. Throughout its history the university has also had a Bible department and a School of Theology (1886-1900).
