Biographical Sketch
Retha Lorene Pitts was born in Clay County, Ind. on June 19, 1919 she was the daughter of Olace G. and Lucile (McCullough) Matkins. She married Wayne V. Pitts on Oct. 4, 1938.
For 30 years she was a teacher with the Greencastle School system. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Greencastle and a member and past president of the Washburn Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of 1812. Also, she was a member of the Greencastle Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 255 and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's sorority. In 1973 she received the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge Medal. She died in Jan. of 1995.
